Troubleshooting Document Table Issues in MAIA

Last updated 6 months ago

For technical details on how MAIA processes tables, see our MAIA Tables Reference.

When MAIA can't find or properly display tables from your documents, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Problem 1: MAIA Says "Table Not Found" / Doesn’t Show Table Upon Request

Step 1: Try Page-Specific Queries

Instead of: "Show me Table 4.1"
Try: "Show me the table on page 15"

Step 2: Get Complete Page Content

If table still doesn't appear: "Give me the complete content of page 15 1-1"

Step 3: Describe the Content

Instead of: "The appendix table"
Try: "Table with quarterly sales data" or "cost breakdown table"

Step 4: Add Context

Try: "The comparison table in the methodology section"

Step 5: Upload Table Separately

  1. Copy the table in any actual table format (CSV, markdown, TSV)

  2. Paste into a new .txt file

  3. Upload to MAIA

  4. Query the new file

Result: You should now be able to access the table data.

Problem 2: MAIA Shows Incomplete Table Results

Step 1: Request Complete Data

Ask: "Show me the complete table with [topic] data"

Step 2: Query by Row Ranges

If still cut off:

  1. Ask: "Show me rows 1-100 of this table"

  2. Then: "Show me rows 100-200"

  3. Continue until complete

Step 3: Handle Multi-page Tables

Ask: "Show me all tables about [topic]" to get complete data sets

Result: You should get the full table content.

Problem 3: Table Appears Unformatted or Messy

Step 1: Request Clean Formatting

Ask: "Show this as a proper table" or "Format this table clearly"

Step 2: Request Specific Export Format

Try: "Export this as CSV format" or "Show as markdown table"

Step 3: Ask for Structured Output

Try: "Show this table with clear column headers and rows"

Result: Table should display in readable format.

Problem 4: Tables in Scanned Documents Not Detected

Step 1: Verify Analysis Mode

Ensure you're using Premium Mode (Advanced Analytics) for scanned PDFs

Step 2: Try Page Content Extraction

Ask: "What content do you see on page [X]?"

Step 3: Use Universal Table Trick

If table is visible but not detected, copy and paste into .txt file

Result: Scanned tables should be accessible.
